Residents will have to fork out at least $1650 to hire Sunshine Coast Council’s new venue on its ninth floor of the Maroochydore CBD city hall.
From October, Altitude Nine will offer a space for community celebrations, business functions, and private events with panoramic views from the ninth floor of the $100m city hall building which opened last year.
A council spokesperson said the venue was able to accommodate up to 180 people, with prices starting at $1650 to host a half day event.
They said the hire costs cover venue hire and staff, set up and pack down, as well as the use of tables, chairs, and AV equipment.
“Venue hire fees will factor in dates, length of time, weekend/weekdays and if the user is community/not-for-profit, private or corporate,” the spokesperson said.
“Community groups and not-for-profit organisations can take advantage of discounted rates when booking Altitude Nine, with discounts starting at 50 per cent off the standard rate for venue hire, equipment, and operating fees.
“Contemporary food and beverages packages will also be available showcasing local produce and suppliers.”
According to the council, Altitude Nine will be operated by the community venues team with income generated from the venue to offset the costs of providing the space.
Mayor Mark Jamieson said the brand-new council-owned venue is operated on behalf of the community.
“With a design inspired by the landscape of the Sunshine Coast and our deep connection to the hinterland, this is an exciting and welcome addition to the Maroochydore city centre and I look forward to seeing our community enjoy this new space,” Mr Jamieson said.
“The stunning venue continues our commitment to creating and providing places and spaces that build relationships and bring our community together.”
Councillor David Law said the venue was designed to accommodate a wide range of events for community purposes and private hire.
“I am pleased to see Altitude Nine opening as there is increasing demand for community spaces and the top level of City Hall will assist in responding to that need,” Mr Law said.
“This new venue, which celebrates the Coast’s unique landscape, is set to be an outstanding location to host events that rise with the sun or settle in with the sunset, honouring the stunning natural environment of the Sunshine Coast.
“We look forward to the venue being open for hire from mid-October.”
