Sunshine Coast contractors face licence suspension as building industry watchdog cracks down

More than a dozen Sunshine Coast and Noosa contractors could have their licence suspended or cancelled unless they lodge financial information.

'Cladding crisis' in Australia as up to three thousand high-rises at risk of 'inferno'

More than a dozen Sunshine Coast and Noosa contractors will be unable to start new jobs until they lodge financial information with the state’s building industry watchdog.

The Queensland Building and Construction Commission has taken action against 13 contractors and applied conditions to the licensees.

There were 205 statewide.

The conditions will prevent the licensees from providing quotes or tenders or doing new work until the paperwork is lodged.

The 13 Coast companies include painters, plumbers, shop fitters, concreting and form workers, who all have an annual allowable turnover of up to $200,00 and $800,000, respectively.

QBCC Commissioner Brett Bassett said this was the second year of the annual financial reporting process, and licensees had no excuse for not submitting their financial reports.

Mr Bassett said the companies had until close of business on Friday, August 20, to submit their finances or face potential licence suspension or cancellation.

“It’s pleasing that the majority of licensees have complied but those who haven’t are now subject to action from the QBCC, starting with conditions being applied and potentially ending up with the cancellation of their licence,” Mr Bassett said.

“Mandatory annual financial reporting helps reassure homeowners that licensees have sufficient financial resources to complete their projects, and gives subcontractors and suppliers confidence that they are doing business with viable operators.”
