The Sunshine Coast community has shared their shock and heartbreak at the death of a former Noosa osteopath who was among six people fatally wounded at a mass stabbing in Westfield Bondi Junction.
First-time mum Ash Good, 38, was pushing her nine-month-old daughter Harriet in a pram through the centre when Joel Cauchi stabbed the baby girl before attacking Ms Good.
Two brothers who were nearby in the shopping centre recalled the moment Ms Good handed them the baby, begging them to help.
“She handed us the baby and said ‘please help, help’,” one of the men said.
“She was bleeding from her head, her face … the baby was bleeding,” he said.
Ms Good’s LinkedIn account shows the 38-year-old mum worked as an osteopath for a number of years in Noosa and Buderim before moving to Sydney.
News of Ms Good’s death prompted an outpouring of grief from the Sunshine Coast community.
Friend Janine Polkinghorne said Ms Good “dedicated her life to helping others through her career as an osteo and her general caring nature”.
“She oozed positivity and we’d often bump into each other. Her big smile could be seen miles away,” Ms Polkinghorne said.
Ms Polkinghorne said she’s often bump into Ms Good on sunrise runs in Noosa National Park and Mt Coolum.
“She’d always stop for a hug and a chat. You don’t meet many people with a heart as kind and loving as Ash’s.
“She was such a beautiful soul, it’s incredibly heartbreaking news.”
Melanie Eager worked with Ms Good in Noosa and said “her energy filled the room”.
“She was bubbly, outgoing, fun and had something about her that I always admired,” Ms Eager said.
People also took to social media to share their heartbreak, with Steph Evans writing, “I am shocked to see it was you”.
“Oh no Ash, you were such a beautiful person inside and out. I am shocked to see that it was you,” Ms Evans wrote.
“I am beyond words, my heart aches hearing this. Sending God’s peace and strength to beautiful Ash’s family,” Katie Maree posted.
Social media tributes described Ms Good as “such a special lady” and “the best mother”.
“My heart breaks for beautiful Ash and her baby and family, she was such a special lady RIP,” Vikki Speller wrote.
“Ash I knew you would make the best mother in the whole world! Till your last breath she is so blessed to have a fierce Mumma like you. I am so sad she has to grow up without you beautiful Ash,” Tray Lee said.
The killer, 40-year-old Queensland man Joel Cauchi was shot dead by a female police officer.
Ms Good’s family released a statement on Sunday, providing an update on nine-month baby Harriet.
“We appreciate the well wishes and thoughts of members of the Australian public who have expressed an outpouring of love for Ashlee and our baby girl,” the family said.
“We can report that after hours of surgery yesterday our baby is currently doing well. We are so grateful for the expert care and attention of the medical team at Sydney Children’s Hospital.”
