Video footage taken just hours before the frenzied Bondi Junction attack, shows a zombie-like Joel Cauchi stumbling up Oxford Street before losing his balance and falling to the ground.
CCTV footage from outside Nutrition Station Cafe just after 12.30pm on Saturday afternoon, shows Cauchi walking up the footpath beside the shop, before slowing, looking at groups of seated people at tables and then stumbling and toppling over.
A shirtless man walking over to the coffee tables, sees Cauchi on the floor and walks over to help him up.
Cauchi can then be seen parting from the shirtless man and walking away, with his black backpack over his shoulder.
A short time before that, vision showed a “confused” Cauchi had sat down to eat a Vietnamese chicken curry in what would be his final meal, just hours before the brazen attack.
CCTV footage from inside Vietnamese restaurant Saigon Noodle, shows Cauchi entering the shop on Oxford Street at 10.01am and flicking through menu pages before ordering a meal to eat in.
He opens his wallet, but does not pay and leaves just moments after.
He ordered a red chicken curry and told the staff member serving him he would come back.
He returned to the store at 12.21pm, ordered the same chicken curry and paid.
He sat and ate what would be his last meal for 15 minutes, before leaving the restaurant.
He was wearing a black backpack at the time.
Rogate Sianipar served Cauchi on Saturday morning and said he appeared “confused.”
“He came two times. The first time he didn’t bring the money. I took the order. He said I’ll be back again,” the staff member said.
“He just look confused when taking the order.
“I think he paid with cash.”
Ms Sianipar said when she saw the news of the man’s attack, she felt “lucky.”
“I was feeling so lucky,” she said clutching her chest.
“This is the man I served. It was two times he came.
“I didn’t believe it.
“I can’t describe this feeling. Scared.”
Other footage taken moments after Cauchi left the cafe, shows him stumbling and falling into a wall near a cafe close by to the restaurant.
He was helped by up by a shopper nearby, before moving on.
Police detectives have spent all of Sunday canvassing the local shops for evidence and signs of Cauchi’s last moves.
