Stockland has revealed new plans for a furniture and homeware retail complex at Caloundra South as part of the Aura Business Park development.

An application has been lodged with Economic Development Queensland proposing to build the complex at a 3.8ha lot in Baringa on the corner of Graf Drive and Aura Boulevard.

If approved, the “bulky goods retail complex” would feature mainly showrooms alongside a few “small scale” food premises.

The proposed designs include a metal feature for signage as well as trees and climbing plants scattered throughout the complex.

The application states there will also be an “allowance for indoor sport and recreation uses”.

A Stockland spokesperson said 16,000sq m will be dedicated to “large format retail” and up to 2000sq m has been set aside for indoor sport and recreation facilities.

This may include a gymnasium as well as cafes and other food and beverage options, the spokesperson said.

It is estimated the complex will house about 15 tenancies, with Aura Business Park expected to create 5000 new jobs upon completion.

“The proposed development will be a convenient shopping hub for the growing community, providing access to bulky goods retail like furniture, homeware, bedding, appliances, and electrical,” the spokesperson said.

An outdoor dining area is planned for the frontage along Aura Boulevard, the application stated.

The designs include two main buildings with a planned parking lot in the centre, accommodating 405 vehicles within the precinct.

A total of 405 parking lots have been proposed alongside 16 bicycle racks which equate to 32 slots.

The application states the complex will feature at least two to three major retail tenants.

No official name has been decided for the proposed shopping precinct and no tenants have been secured.

The proposal shortly follows Stockland’s plans for a new retirement development in Banya as part of the growing Aura estate.
