The Noosa Dolphins are leading all four grades in the Sunshine Coast Rugby Union competition and now have their attention on finals

SEE THE LIST: The top 12 Noosa Dolphins players that have been key to their teams’ success this season

The Noosa Dolphins are proving once again why they are the heavyweights of the Sunshine Coast Rugby Union competition as they sit top of the table across all four senior grades.

Noosa’s A-grade, reserve grade, women’s and senior colts teams are dominating their opponents and with only two rounds to be played before finals, the players don’t look to be slowing down.

We caught up with each team’s head coach to find out which players have been the key reasons to their success so far.

MEN’S A-GRADE (coach Matt Buckland)

Jock Hanson - flanker

“He’s been outstanding for us this year,” said Buckland.

“Each time he gets his hands on the ball he produces some great carries but also backs up his work in attack with his solid defence.

“Something he’s really grown into as well has been his communication on the field which is great to see.”

Jordan Mayhew - fullback

“He’s always so cool and calm under pressure and his goalkicking has been superb,” said Buckland.

“His ability to organise and take control of the defence from the back has been really positive.”

“Colvin has been solid in his own actions and leading the boys around the park as captain,” Buckland said.

“He doesn't have to say too much to get the boys fired up and he lets his skills on the field set an example.

“He has been instrumental in setting the standard and by doing what he does it’s allowed players to lift and produce some top draw performances.

“His work around the breakdown, key defensive plays and his overall consistency in his performance is why he’s so well respected at our club.”

Tess Evans - number eight

“Tess has been our captain this year and her biggest strength is her leadership and her overall work rate,” Epstein said.

“Her ability to motivate other players to perform well each week has been massive.”

Naomi Tomlinson - flyhalf

“Naomi is our playmaker and has been great at directing our attack this season,” Epstein said.

“Her skill with the ball has been great and she allows each of her teammates to perform well.”

“Amy has been great to have in the team this year,” Epstein said.

“She’s big, strong, fast, super talented and a big reason for our attacking flair.”

SENIOR COLTS (coach Eric Smyth)

Leo Langbridge - number eight

“Leo has captained the boys this year and has been playing some top footy for us which has helped him earn a few matches in A-grade this season,” Smyth said.

“He is a very dominant backrower with some very handy ball skills.”

“Tyson has been in form all year for us and another player who’s gotten the call up into the A-grade side,” Smyth said.

“He is an abrasive ball runner with plenty of pace and flair in attack.”

Lachie Franklin - flyhalf

“Lachie has definitely been our most consistent player each time he gets onto the field and is a reflection of our teams results,” Smyth said.

“He’s got an ability to control the ball and speed of the play which has helped our team this season.”

RESERVE GRADE (coach Mark Johnstone

Tom Warriner - number eight

“He has been one of our best players each week and is easily one of the hardest workers in our team,” said Johnstone.

“He’s very strong, very tough out on the field and is a great team player.”

Yvahn Allsworth - second row

“Yvahn is killing it every week and it’s even more impressive given it’s his first year of senior footy,” he said.

“He was named our vice-captain which is a huge achievement as that’s not something we hand out easily at our club.

“His name is in the conversation every week as one of our best players and he’s been key in terms of our success this season.”

“Jay has been great in what is his last year of senior rugby,” Johnstone said.

“He’s been great as captain and at flyhalf directing the boys around the park.

“He is in and out of A grade which is great to see as well.”
