A place in the finals has been locked up with two rounds still to play but a new leader has emerged from the pack.

A 57-14 victory in favour of Noosa over Caloundra opened the door for University to go four points clear after their 42-5 win against Caboolture.

Maroochydore made it tough in the opening half but found their rhythm to take a 40-12 result against Wynnum.

The Bugs have the bye in round 14 which means the other side’s will be battling it out for a home final.

Brothers will host Caloundra, Noosa will travel to Caboolture and University will welcome Maroochydore.

See which players were the true standout in round 13.

SCRU A-GRADE RD 13 TEAM OF THE WEEK

1. Robert Panipasa (Caboolture)

Has been on fire for the Snakes in the back half of the season and went toe-to-toe with a strong University pack once again.

Tackled well, controlled the ruck to the best of his ability and carried with purpose.

2. Lincoln Payne (Maroochydore)

Continues to grow each and every game despite being one of the youngest players on the field.

Payne was immense at the set piece and thrives when the defence allows him room to move.

3. Blake Bradley (Maroochydore)

Produced another huge 80 minute effort playing both loose and tighthead prop.

Muscled up well again against Andrew Spethman who was a strong force for Wynnum.

4. Harry Wright (Noosa)

Matched up against a strong Caloundra backrow really well and his partnership with captain Levi Shaw was a class above.

Carried with purpose, made great chopping tackles and was a threat at the ruck.

5. Gabriele Venditti (Caloundra)

Gave it his all on both sides of the ball all game long.

Was Caloundra’s strongest and most damaging player in close quarters.

6. Riley Kerr (Maroochydore)

Was Maroochydore’s best against Wynnum with countless carries forward and some good defensive discipline.

Scored two tries of his own.

7. Billy Tait (Noosa)

Was the Dolphins best player on Saturday, showcasing his huge work rate and defensive knack.

Linked-up with his ball-playing forwards and backs really well, got the ball over the advantage line and created threatening opportunities.

8. Olly Willis (University)

Was huge against the Snakes, starting the game at number eight before moving back into the second row.

Willis really stood tall and led the way in the absence of key University forwards.

9. Mathieu De Butler (University)

It was De Butler’s first A-grade start against Caboolture where the crafty halfback showed a handful of promising signs.

With a depleted forward pack and backline, De Butler controlled the pace of the game, got his side on the front foot early and continued to pick apart the Snakes ruck defence.

Scored a nice try of his own.

10. Joey Caputo (Noosa)

Has been a consistent stand out since permanently moving back into the fly half role for Noosa.

His composure with and without the ball kept his side at ease and he took on the Lighthouse defence at the perfect time.

Finished with five conversions and four penalty goals.

11. Tom Roper (Caloundra)

It was a tough day at the office for Caloundra but Roper never dropped his head with some great defensive reads and attacking runs.

Scored a well deserved try in the closing stages.

12. Nathan Thomson (University)

The University fly half would’ve been a tough omission to leave out this week after really taking the reins of his side and getting them around the park with serious ownership.

Thomson found his running game, taking the ball to the line really well against Caboolture.

13. George Loose (Noosa)

It was another solid and respectable performance from Loose on Saturday, reaping the rewards of a fast paced attacking backline.

He combined well with his fly half Joey Caputo as well as fullback Ben Walker.

14. Tyler Tully (Wynnum)

Tully was Wynnum’s best against the Swans with a try of his own and some good runs on the right hand touchline.

Showed good spark when he had the ball.

15. Tye James (Maroochydore)

Despite the end result it was tough going for the Swans early but James was in absolutely everything, producing his best game of the season.

His kicking game was a class above but it was his work off the ball in support and sweeping from side to side that did the most damage.

Honourable mentions: Rohan Nichol (Maroochydore), Connor Malt (Wynnum), Andrew Spethman (Wynnum), Levi Shaw (Noosa), Tai Ford (Noosa), Oscar Torrens (Caboolture), Ben Lagi (Caboolture), Josh Mostert (University), Kaan Askew (Caloundra), Blake Enever (Caloundra) and Jarrod Kidston (Caloundra).
