A battle between the hinterland and the beach has arrived as Kawana FC take on the Woombye Snakes in this weekend’s blockbuster Sunshine Coast premier men's football grand final at Maroochydore.

Kawana were able to hold off a rampant Noosa Lions outfit winning their semi final 3-1 while Woombye upset minor premiers Nambour Yandina Utd 2-1.

In a huge 12-month turnaround both teams would now compete for the title after finishing bottom of the table in the 2020 season.

We asked the remaining coaches in the premier men's competition who will be crowned the 2021 premiers and why.

Here’s what they had to say:

“I saw that Ryan Delahunty was injured in Kawana’s semi final which is a massive loss for them and after our match against Woombye they are a real chance if they play with that same togetherness and desire,” he said.

“I think Woombye have got what it takes to win it all so can see them nicking a sneaky win if I’m being honest.”

Ben Amson (Noosa FC)

“It will definitely be a tough one and Woombye definitely won’t die,” he said.

“You can be winning by eight goals and they’ll still be coming at you but ultimately I think Kawana will be too good.

“I think the way Kawana defends by throwing themselves at literally everything but also being so quick in attack and lethal upfront.

“Credit to both teams but Kawana are my pick.”

Justin Kilshaw (Gympie United FC)

“It will definitely be a tight contest and I believe Kawana were the best footballing side that we played against this season,” he said.

“Kawana blew us off the park in the two games we played them but they’ve had some patches were they lost a few games in a row as well.

“Woombye have had a few ups and downs but overall have been a lot more consistent throughout the season so I think Woombye will win it.”

“I think Woombye have a stronger squad and have some really good players in the middle of the field which will help them control the ball well,” he said.

“If I had to pick and if I had to put money on it I’m picking Woombye to win it all on Saturday.”

“I was surprised when Woombye beat Nambour Yandina Utd in the semi and looking at this final it is definitely up in the air,” he said.

“As much as it pains me to say it because they are our local rivals and anyone from the club reading this will probably give me a bit of stick but based on the games we played this season I think Kawana will get the win.”

“I’m very torn between the two and could definitely give an answer for why both teams can win it,” he said.

“Both teams have some good experienced players at finals level and I think both teams will bring a very high intensity.

“It will be a big battle but I think if Woombye can score early or even if they can find themselves in front they can scrape through to win.”

Garrad Zammit (Maroochydore FC)

“This year’s final will be an interesting one as initially in the build up I would have predicted Kawana to go through and win but I think I’ve since changed my mind and am now leaning towards a Woombye win,” he said.

“I think watching them play NYU last week and having both their reserves and premier teams in the final will be so much more motivation.

“It will be a really tight game but I do think Woombye will get up.”
