Sunshine Coast Wanderers’ future as a National Premier League side has been thrown a boost with Paul Arnison confident of a contractual resolution following a heated AGM.

Sunshine Coast Wanderers coach Paul Arnison says he is confident of a contract resolution within a week following a change of presidency at the club.

It comes after Glenn Duncan was voted in as the new club president ousting incumbent Ian Grant at Wednesday night’s AGM.

Arnison had technically become a free agent following the end of the National Premier League’s regular season campaign in which his side finished in fifth place.

The 45-year-old had this week revealed he had been offered a contract to stay on as coach, however, he felt it was “unrealistic” in its demands.

At Wednesday’s AGM, Arnison said the contract had stipulated a top-four target with no change in its budget.

Arnison said it was crucial to get the ball rolling on a contract and said he hoped something would be resolved within days.

“If the chance comes, I want to stay, so hopefully we can resolve something,” Arnison said.

“It’s not about the money. It’s about carrying on a job that I’ve loved.

“The players are the number one priority, so getting the coach locked in so the players can get settled is the main aim.”

Mr Duncan promised to unite a divided club that had fractured over remaining a community focused club and one with ambitions of being a force in the NPL.

Arnison pleaded with both sides to work together.

He said he was confident of the club’s future with a change of leadership and said the sky was the limit.

“We shouldn’t be divided, we should be one club working together. Both are as important as each other,” Arnison said.

“I’d like to think we can move on and push forward in the right direction.”

Arnison further acknowledged that football was a results-driven business and said it was a challenge he was up for.
