Rising Sunshine Coast jockey Montana Philpot has again found herself back on the sidelines, just weeks after returning from a five-month injury break.
Philpot suffered a nasty post-race fall at the Sunshine Coast on April 24 and was left with two broken collarbones, a broken rib on the left side of her neck and four breaks in her pelvis.
The 23-year-old hoop returned to light duties in late September before suffering another injury on Monday, October 17 during trackwork.
“(I) was on one who just shied around the back and got me out of place before she freaked out and just took off,” she said.
“I came off and landed on my shoulder.
“I broke my left collarbone again right in front of the plate I already had there.
“I’ll be having surgery next Wednesday where the surgeon will remove the old plate and put a new full plate across both breaks.”
Philpot said she was hoping to return to riding duties in the next six to eight weeks.
“I’d been back for three weeks as I had two weeks of light duties and had just finished up a complete week of full duty, so really was starting to get back into the swing of things,” she said.
“I’ve realised it’s a bit unlucky but it’s the cards that I’ve been dealt and I’ve just got to recover and get back into it again.”
Philpot said she was thankful for the support she had received.
“Even before I was a jockey I’ve had heaps of support from family and friends. I’ve got a lot of people on my side which makes it easier,” she said.
