Sunshine Coast trainer Gary ‘Jack’ Duncan says he couldn’t be prouder of Seat Of Power’s recent performances as he looks towards defending his Mooloolaba Cup title.

Seat of Power finished second to Bjorn Baker’s Fun Fact in the Queensland Cup over 2400m at Eagle Farm on Saturday, October 8, after back-to-back wins at Doomben and the Toowoomba Cup.

Duncan said he had the difficult decision of where to place his stable’s in-form gelding.

“I couldn’t be happier with him, he’s been really good lately and had a big weight on Saturday with four or five kilograms but he’s higher in the ratings now which makes sense and makes it hard,” he said.

“He’s going good, I’m not sure what we’re going to do with him yet as he’s hard to place now, especially in Queensland.

“We’ve got to get in something where he’s not weighted out of it, he’ll probably have a break now and get ready for the winter carnival but he could go to Sydney in the Autumn if we find a group three or something that’d suit his standard.”

The eight-year-old has recorded four seconds and two wins from his past seven starts, with his only run outside of the placings being at the Caloundra Cup on July 2.

“I think he would’ve even gone well in the Caloundra Cup as well but he got a throat full of mud and post race he was choking and coughing it up for hours,” he said.

Duncan said he was looking towards the campaigns of five-year-olds Dzsenifer and Goldsborough in November.

He hoped a first-up approach for Dzsenifer in the Mooloolaba Cup could help him defend his 2021 win with Wapiti.

“She’s getting back into the swing of things and so the Mooloolaba Cup is the plan at the moment,” he said.

Dzsenifer was Duncan’s first winner after the trainer suffered a heart attack at Doomben in July 2021.

“I think I’m good now, at least I hope so,” he said with a laugh.

“I don’t have to go back to the specialist for 12 months and I’m back being hands on so everything should be good.”
