A young man accused of filming himself sexually assaulting Sunshine Coast women has secured funding for a psychological analysis.
Maroochydore Magistrates Court has heard on June 9 Simon Ricardo Barra Yaite will wait for a psychologist report before he proceeds to a lengthy plea.
Barra Yaite has been charged with seven counts of sexual assault and one of common assault after allegedly assaulting multiple exercising women over several months last year at Buderim, Mountain Creek and Sippy Downs.
The court was previously told it was alleged Barra Yaite would lie in wait before he would approach women from behind and grab their bottoms while they exercised at night.
It was alleged by detectives Barra Yaite would film some of the attacks to watch and uploaded the videos to an online sex group he found by googling “groping”.
During his last mention, the court heard the 21-year-old man allegedly told police he needed to be stopped, with concerns his offending would escalate to rape.
He also allegedly told officers he was a “pervert” and a “degenerate”, referring to it as his “second secret life”.
After he was granted bail in November last year, Barra Yaite allegedly inappropriately touched a 17-year-old shop assistant multiple times at the Sunshine Plaza.
He was arrested again after the allegedly incident and has been remanded in custody since.
Defence lawyer Cherisse Wildin said Barra Yaite’s matter was initially set for a long plea last month, but was changed to a bail application last minute.
The bail application was denied.
Barra Yaite has since secured funding for a psychologist report, which has been booked in for July.
Ms Wildin asked to adjourn the long plea to a later date, to allow for the report’s completion.
Magistrate Chris Callaghan adjourned the matter to August 29.
No pleas have been entered.
