Plans for a five-storey development in a small beachside community have been placed on public notice, with the developer looking to bust height limits by three metres.

The plans submitted to the Sunshine Coast Council in February by the developer, Perissinotto Pty Ltd, opened for public submissions earlier this month.

The existing property at 17 Hume Parade, Currimundi, a single-dwelling home, would be demolished to make way for three luxury three-bedroom units.

According to the planning report the unit block would span over five-storeys, neighbouring a number of single-storey homes.

“The subject site is a rectangular lot with a total area of 609m2 and a frontage to Hume Parade of approximately 14.1 metres. The site currently contains a two storey dwelling house, secondary dwelling and associated hardstand for access,” the planning report stated.

If approved, the 15 metre development would exceed the area’s 12 metre height limit.

“The site is located within the 12 metre height area within the Height of Buildings and Structures Overlay,” the report stated.

“The development proposes a maximum height of five storeys and 15 metres, however it should be noted the exceedance in building height is limited to a library and home office for unit three.”

The planning report stated the property had historically been a site that had a risk of unexploded ordnances.

“The application is subject to a referral to the chief executive as the site is mapped within an area that has historically containing unexploded ordnances however, the attached

contaminated land search concludes the site is not contaminated,” the report stated.

It is also stated in the report submitted to the council, the site leads onto the Currimundi Lake.

“The subject site is located in the suburb of Currimundi, on the northern side of Hume Parade,” the planning report stated.

“The northern side of Hume Parade is largely characterised by apartment buildings of various scales addressing Cliff Hargreaves Park and the Currimundi Lake.”

Public submissions close on July, 1, 2025.
