'There's an eastern brown in the shower'

Queensland snake catchers have posted nightmarish footage of snakes slithering their way into homes, with one being cornered in a homeowner’s shower and another being found curling under a child’s bassinet.

The Facebook video posted by Sunshine Coast Snake Catcher 24/7 on November 21 showed an Eastern Brown snake trapped in a shower in a Moreton Bay home.

As seen in the video post, catcher Glenn safely removed the snake after it began lunging at the shower door.

“As you can see, this snake is feeling very threatened, it is cornered in the open with nowhere to go or hide, resulting in it displaying defensive mechanisms,” Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 wrote in the post.

“The snake striking, hissing, and standing up means it is simply trying to protect itself from Glenn.

“As soon as the snake got out of the shower, it immediately tried to escape and get right away from Glenn.”

Owner of Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7, Stu McKenzie, said the snake “was not aggressive”.

“It was actually being very defensive as it was terrified and felt trapped/cornered,” Mr McKenzie said.

“It didn't take Glenn too long to be able to relocate the snake- only a few minutes.”

Mr McKenzie recommends if homeowners are confronted with a snake inside their home, they should “isolate the snake in a room or area of the house”.

“If it's not safe to do so then it's best that everyone goes outside and shut all the doors until a snake catcher arrives,” Mr McKenzie said.

Daniel Busstra, also known as Snake Catcher Dan, also posted terrifying footage of snakes sneaking into homes.

Mr Busstra safely removed a venomous brown tree snake from a home in Maleny on October 7, with footage showing the snake wriggling under the bassinet.

“You’re inside a house with kids,” Busstra tells the snake in the footage.

“You can’t be in here.”

Mr Busstra also removed a venomous brown tree snake that was curled around a picture frame in a client’s bathroom in Mapleton on October 18.

“It would have been sleeping back there until the night time, then it would have started its adventure around the house. Good thing it was spotted when it was,” Busstra said.

Queensland’s Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science, and Innovation says that while brown tree snakes are venomous, they “don’t normally harm humans”.
