Major deal for Maroochydore CBD

A new medical centre providing a variety of health services to illicit drug users and the general public is set to open in Maroochydore in place of closed restaurant India Today.

The development application lodged in March on behalf of Queensland Injectors Health Network seeks to build a coastal-inspired clinic at the site of 91 Aerodrome Rd, Maroochydore.

The medical services would include general health care, counselling, group therapy, peer education sessions and workforce development.

With a mixture of materials and finishes, the design of the clinic is said to be inspired by a “coastal, subtropical aesthetic”.

Timber batten screening will act as a feature of the proposed building, with a lightweight pergola style awning and transparent corrugated roof to adopt the coastal aesthetic.

According to the development application that is yet to be approved by council, the clinic would have an attractive street frontage and be pedestrian-friendly.

“We are of the opinion that the proposed development is a positive addition to the Aerodrome Rd corridor, providing a high-quality built form,” the application said.

Eight car parks would be provided at the rear of the site.

“The carparking arrangement has been designed to avoid a tandem carparking arrangement for greater operational efficiency,” the proposal said.

The proposed development would replace an existing building which previously operated as India Today.
