MORE than 50 people gathered at a VIP function to celebrate the landmark project, First Bay Coolum that is located on one of the Coast's most coveted development sites.

Mel and Gill Luke, developers of First Bay Coolum and well-known Sunshine Coast community members, provided a glimpse of the architecturally-designed building plans and a chance to hear from the development team.

Members of the First Bay Coolum team include prominent architect Ken Down and sales agents Todd McKee and Kerry Glover.

The event, held at the display suite at McGrath Estate Agents, Mooloolaba, acknowledged the vision of the project that has been quite a few years of planning.

Gill Luke said the planning started in 1990 when they bought the first block.

"First Bay is the pick of the spots on the Coast,'' he said.

"Is there better?

"I don't think so ... I'll let you be the judge of that.

"We have built a good team around us to put the project together.''

Ken Down first came to the Sunshine Coast in the 1960s to go surfing and because of that he got involved in yachting.

Those past-times allowed him to understand the Sunshine Coast climate, geography and buildings that sit well in the environment.

He welcomed the chance to be involved in the First Bay Coolum project.

"This is real architects work,'' he said. "We are talking about quality in what we've set out to achieve here.

"It's interesting to see how the Coast is coming of age.

"To see what Sydney has got on the harbour and we are now getting to that stage.

"That in turn led to the connection with others in this industry.''
