Fourteen ready-to-build residential lots will go to auction at the end of November in Grantham as a way to ease a housing supply crisis gripping the state.

The 14 lots located on the Grantham Estate are now being sold by the Lockyer Valley Council as way to address the housing shortage, a statement from the regional council said.

The Grantham lots are between 1557m2 and 2000m2 and are each registered and ready to build on.

With a population of less than 1000 people, the rural town suffered from catastrophic flooding in 2011 and while it has bounced back, it still faces the challenges of adequate housing supply.

Within the last quarter, Lockyer Valley experienced some of the biggest state falls in rental vacancy rates, according to the latest REIQ vacancy report.

“We have a housing supply crisis in Australia, and we appreciate a lot of our residents are struggling through both this, and cost-of-living challenges,” Lockyer Valley Regional Council Mayor Tanya Milligan said.

“Anything we can do to boost the housing supply we will, and that is why now feels like the right time to offer up this opportunity.”

The land is located in a flood-free area of Grantham along Tryhorn and Engler streets and boasts eastern views backing onto rural land.

The lots will individually go to auction at 6pm, Wednesday, November 27 at the Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre by Ray White Commercial.

“This good quality land is a great opportunity for owner-occupier or investor to break into the region’s market,” Ray White director Mark Creevey said.
