Noosa auctions: Gympie Terrace home sells at auction to Brisbane couple

One of the few remaining undeveloped 1960s Noosaville riverfront cottages sold to a Brisbane couple – leaving locals wondering what will happen next.

Rising interest rates will 'push' housing demand

One of the last undeveloped blocks at Noosaville’s riverfront sold to a Brisbane couple who happened to be in the area when the property was auctioned.

The two-bedroom cottage home at 139 Gympie Terrace received plenty of interest when it hit the market for the first time in 25 years.

It was advertised as one of the two remaining undeveloped blocks along the prized riverfront street which is home to many popular restaurants and hotels.

Dowling and Neylan sales agent Lisa Hornsby said the former owners were well-known in the area and ready for a change.

She said the home sold at auction to a Brisbane couple for $2.54m who registered after bids were already being taken.

Property records show the 1960s built home last sold in 1996 for $200,000.

“The eventual winning bidder came half way through the bidding process … they were driving along Gympie Terrace and saw there was an auction going on so they decided to have a look,” Ms Hornsby said.

The auction attracted a good crowd with many locals eager to see how much the property would sell for and who to.

Ms Hornsby said the new owners admired the house.

She said it was a good sale price for the area considering the 460sq m size of the block.

Most inquiries were in relation to the development value with the land zoned as medium density residential.

It remained unclear what the new owners would do with the property as Ms Hornsby said they did not have any plans for the near future.

She said the former owners thought it was a solid result.

“The owner was very well respected and well liked, they’re part of the Noosaville river community so they will be missed,” she said.
