Popular Mooloolaba Wharf restaurant Ninth Street announces closure
A Sunshine Coast restaurant that survived Covid and went viral for its extreme food creations has made the shock announcement it will close forever.
A Mooloolaba wharf restaurant known for their crazy American inspired food creations has decided to close their doors after seven years.
Ninth Street announced their closure in social media posts revealing they had to close because their lease was near expiry, making their last day October 11.
“It’s that bittersweet time where we say thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” the Facebook post read.
“We’ve got all the emotions happening right now and we’re super sad sacks about the news, but our lease is almost up and The Wharf had different plans for our venue … so it’s time for us to leave.”
The post also said the past several years had been a roller coaster of ups and downs.
“The past seven years has been a whirlwind of highs, challenges and plenty of laughs,” the Facebook post read.
“We hit the ground running for about a year, then the pandemic hit hard.
“But even though we were challenged, we managed to stay alive for the seven years, employ a bunch of legends, create some crazy meals and desserts, pay our bills, meet some superb customers as well as going viral a few times.
“We have to take those wins wherever we can, right?”
The restaurant has been known to create a number of different trendy creations from dubai strawberry cups to mac and cheese cheeseburgers.
For their last month, they offered customers to nominate four meals they wanted to see brought back, along with giveaways.
They also continued to offer customers who had their birthdays in the current month one free item off their menu.
In their final Facebook post, they thanked their customers, staff and their boss.
“To our incredible customers — thank you for every visit, every burger night, every cocktail shared, every insane dessert ate, every food challenge, and every laugh that filled these walls,” the Facebook post read.
“You made Ninth Street what it was — nothing short of incredible.
“To our staff — you guys are the heart and soul of this place. The passion, the chaos, the good vibes, the teamwork — we’ll never forget it.
“And of course, a massive shoutout to the boss lady J, the one who dreamt this up, built it from the ground, and poured her heart into every corner.”
People shared their disappointment to the closure in the comments, with Kim Norman commenting “it was a sad time for this local”.
“Good luck with whatever you guys do but we all hope it’s a new beginning in a new shop,” Ms Norman said.
Jacinta Green said she “was so happy” to visit the restaurant while on her trip from New South Wales.
“We will have to check out the sista stores on our next visit, awesome food and shakes with great vibes,” Ms Green said.
Ninth Street urged customers to visit their sister cafes, The Nines and Flinders Lane.
