Sunshine Coast Police have launched investigations into breaches of Stage 3 coronavirus restrictions at pubs and clubs over the weekend.

District Superintendent Craig Hawkins said overall, punters had been “reasonably good”, however there were some issues.

“We did have a few issues with pubs and clubs allowing more people than were permitted,” Supt Hawkins said.

“We are being very strict around those numbers, particularly around the social distancing of people.

“There were some concerns and we will enforce that.

“We will be looking to the community and business community to abide by the measures.”

Stage 3 restrictions were introduced on Friday, allowing the public to buy a beer at the bar, and the limit of 20 people per space has been lifted.

If businesses can abide by the 4sq m rule, there will be no caps on the number of patrons.

Smaller venues can have up to 50 patrons, as long as they can follow a 2sq m rule.

Supt Hawkins would not say which precinct the pubs and clubs were from but said investigations would be ongoing.

“We do not wish to go down the path of Victoria and have to put more measures in place,” he said.
