A Buddina man let his roid rage get the better of him after trashing his grandparents’ home and leaving a trail of his blood.
Police followed the bloody aftermath to Zeb Caleb Warnes on August 6, where he was arrested on two counts of wilful damage, one of trespass and another of possessing dangerous drugs.
Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard the sad lead up to his rampage on Friday after he pleaded guilty to all charges.
Acting magistrate Janelle Boegheim said triple-0 calls were made after Warnes began smashing up the Buddina property which included multiple windows, doors, glass, mirrors and other items thrown on the floor.
Police prosecutor Shane Raison said there was a large amount of his blood inside the home, with a wheelie bin and tiles covered in blood, which required cleaning.
When police arrived at the scene they were able to follow the trail of blood straight to the 20-year-old.
Senior Sergeant Raison said a vial of steroids was also found.
The damage to his grandparent’s home was not estimated and restitution was not being pursued.
The court heard he had spent 46 days in custody in the lead up to his sentence on Friday.
Defence lawyer Cherisse Breese told the court Warnes came from a prejudicial upbringing, with parents who were addicted to either drugs or alcohol.
Ms Breese said the Buddina man became homeless at 14 and started using drugs.
His lawyer however said before his arrest he was doing well, working as a resort cleaner, living with his grandparents and going to the gym, but unfortunately was using steroids.
The court heard on the day of the rampage Warnes’ boss hadn’t paid him and was then sent a video of his girlfriend with her new partner.
Warnes then flew into a rage after his grandparents wouldn’t give him money for drinks.
Ms Breese said Warnes was injured at the time and had to be treated in hospital.
She said the damage to the wheelbarrow and tiles was only the blood spatter and not actual damage.
Ms Breese told the court Warnes planned to go to rehab once he was released.
Warnes received jail terms last year for serious assault and armed robbery, with the wilful damage charges occurring while he was on parole, the court heard.
Ms Boegheim said the 20-year-old had become irate with Senior Sergeant Raison in a previous mention on Thursday when the police prosecutor spoke of the violent nature of the charges.
“There was no violence you d---head,” Ms Boegheim quoted Warnes as saying.
She acknowledged a previous jail term Warnes needed to serve will finish on May 11, 2025 and opted not to give a crushing sentence.
Warnes was jailed for nine months with a parole eligibility date of October 20.
