Boilermaker's alleged incident with elderly neighbour

A confronting video has emerged of a Sunshine Coast boilermaker allegedly throwing a wooden stake “like a spear” at his elderly neighbour.

This publication obtained the allegedly disturbing footage depicting Mason William Stoakes being visibly agitated at his 82-year-old neighbour before throwing the projectile towards her at Woombye on June 11.

The 24-year-old was refused bail on June 13 following his arrest on 13 charges including one count of serious assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two of threatening violence.

Court documents tendered during his bail application in Maroochydore Magistrates Court revealed Stoakes allegedly showed “uncontrolled aggression” towards his elderly female neighbour before the alleged throwing incident.

In CCTV footage, Stoakes appeared to aggressively argue with his 82-year-old neighbour and another resident who came to assist.

The Woombye man turned the hose on the elderly neighbour and another resident before he allegedly picked up the wooden stake and threw it, described in court documents as “like a spear”.

“F--- off you stupid c--- leave me alone, I’ve got my own shit to deal with,” Stoakes can allegedly be heard saying on the video.

Bail objection documents state the alleged confrontation was sparked after the 82-year-old tried to talk to Stoakes about fires burning near their boundary fence.

The woman suspected Stoakes turned her water off at the property.

Police further allege Stoakes threatened to kill the woman and her neighbour who came to assist.

Bail documents state the Woombye tradie even allegedly threatened his elderly neighbour’s son to drop a trespass charge against him.

“If you do not drop the charges, you will see the end of a shotgun,” Stoakes allegedly said.

Court documents allege Stoakes also damaged a newsagency in Toowoomba before he attacked its owner and stole his jacket on May 17.

Bail documents state Stoakes was in Toowoomba at the time to scatter his father’s ashes, who the court heard died in April.

Court documents state Stoakes’ relatives believed he was abusing meth which was “elevating” his behaviour.

Defence lawyer Cherisse Breese told the court during his previous bail application Stoakes was struggling with grief following the death of his father and could abide by strict bail conditions.

Magistrate Rod Madsen refused Stoakes’ bail and adjourned his matter to July 17.
