An attack in a Sunshine Coast car park left two people in hospital as a police investigation into the incident continues.

A 59-year-old man was walking through a car park in Short St, Nambour, about 6.35pm on Tuesday when a stranger approached and attacked him.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said others who were unknown to the 59-year-old and the other man “intervened” and then left the scene.

The spokeswoman said that although no one had been arrested, police knew the identity of the alleged attacker and an investigation continued.
