A magistrate has described a teen as the “most stupid person” after he was arrested for demanding busy police call his mum so he could get a lift.

Travis Eric Gino Kuijpers-Weeks was placed on a $300 good behaviour bond for six months after he pleaded guilty to obstructing police and possessing marijuana on November 20.

Police prosecutor Stuart Lydford told the court police were dealing with a serious crime on Ocean St about 3am when Kuijpers-Weeks started pestering them to call his mum.

“(Kuijpers-Weeks) approached officers demanding they assist him because his mobile phone was flat and he needed to speak with his mother so she could come and get him,” Sergeant Lydford said.

He said the teen made the demands four times and was told by police to leave the area.

Sergeant Lydford said one police officer was forced to push Kuijpers-Weeks in the chest and warned him he would be arrested if he didn’t leave.

The court heard the Mooloolah Valley man returned and said “arrest me” to police.

Sergeant Lydford said after being taken to the watch house Kuijpers-Weeks was found to be in possession of less than one gram of marijuana.

He said the young man had no criminal history and suggested a fine or a good behaviour bond for the offending.

Duty lawyer Matt Cooper said the plumbing apprentice was drunk on the night of the offending.

“He had lost his friends throughout the night and did not have any charge on his phone to contact his mother to get back to Mooloolah Valley,” he said.

“He was concerned he was going to be stuck in Maroochydore all night.”

Mr Cooper said Kuijpers-Weeks, who spent seven hours in the watch house, accepted his behaviour was “foolish”.

The teen had reduced his alcohol consumption and hadn’t returned to Ocean St since the offence.

Mr Cooper suggested a good behaviour bond.

Magistrate Richard Lehmann described Kuijpers-Weeks as the “stupidest person” he had ever meet.

“I have never heard of someone so stupid that once they are told to go away from the police they go back and pester them,” he said.

“That’s how stupid you are.”

Mr Lehmann said Kuijpers-Weeks had a bright future, but would need to seriously consider his alcohol and drug use.

He was ordered to complete a drug diversion course.

No convictions were recorded.
