An argument over a lighter led to a 21 year old bashing a teenager near a pub, a court has heard.
Casey James Schafer was on Friday placed on probation for a fight in a Beerwah street in May last year.
Maroochydore District Court heard he had been drinking with a friend who was kicked out of the Beerwah Hotel.
Crown prosecutor Alex Stark said the pair made their way down the street where some acquaintances were standing.
"When those paths crossed, the defendant asked the complainant's male friend for a lighter," Mr Stark said.
"That friend refused and the defendant became aggressive."
The victim then intervened, telling Schafer to back off before a fight broke out.
Mr Stark said Schafer rolled up his sleeves and punched the victim twice "lightly" on the chin.

He said Schafer then picked the victim up and dropped him on the ground.
Schafer's friend joined the fight.
"He ran to the group and punched the complainant," Mr Stark said.
The court heard the victim had a jumper pulled over his head as he was punched several times by Schafer and his friend.
The pair ran from the scene after witnesses intervened and security guards were alerted to the commotion.
"If you call the police, I'll kill you," Schafer yelled as he ran away.
The victim was left with a black eye and cuts to his face and foot.
Schafer told police he didn't recall the incident and declined to be interviewed further.
He pleaded guilty on Friday to one count of assault occasioning bodily harm while in company.
Defence barrister Laura Burrows said her client was otherwise an upstanding young man.
"This matter is an incident of intoxication gone wrong," she said.
Ms Burrows said Schafer was remorseful and only drank at social occasions now.
She said her client attended Beerwah State High School until Year 11 before starting work on a turf farm and later working for his father's detailing business.
Judge Glen Cash said Schafer was lucky there weren't more serious injuries resulting from the fight.
He considered Schafer's young age, character references, and lack of criminal history.
Schafer was sentenced to 18 months probation and ordered to pay the victim $500 in compensation.
No conviction was recorded.
