A Moreton Bay region teen who allegedly glassed a police officer during a tense encounter at Sunshine Plaza on the Sunshine Coast has been remanded in custody after his court appearance.

Police allege that about 2.15pm on Friday, two officers approached three men at the Tommy Gun’s barber shop in Maroochydore’s Sunshine Plaza after identifying one was wanted on outstanding matters.

As police took two of them into custody, Morayfield man Anthony Sebastian Oliver, 19, allegedly struck a 52-year-old senior constable over the head with a glass bottle, causing a deep cut to his forehead.

An off-duty police officer with the help of shopping centre security took Mr Oliver into custody moments later.

Police allege an 18-year-old Nambour man violently resisted arrest by obstructing police who tasered and pepper sprayed him.

Mr Hishon did not apply for bail on behalf of Mr Oliver with his matters adjourned to November 2, 2022.

An 18-year-old Nambour man, who was with Mr Oliver, was charged with one count each of serious assault police by biting/spitting, obstruct police and authority required to possession ammunition.

He was granted police bail and will appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on October 26, 2022.

The male officer was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition after the alleged assault and was understood to be in good spirits after being released from hospital.
