Murder charges laid on a Nambour man who allegedly stabbed Noosa man

Detectives have charged a Nambour man with murder following the “violent” stabbing of a Noosa man at a unit.

Police have charged a man with the murder of a 32-year-old Weyba Downs man who died outside Nambour unit block following a “violent” altercation.

Maroochydore Criminal Investigation Branch detectives arrested a 42-year-old Nambour man this morning at his place of residence.

The man was charged with one count of murder and was denied bail.

He was due to face Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

It comes after emergency services were called to the street just before midnight following reports a man had collapsed on Maud Street, outside a unit block.

Critical care paramedics attempted to revive the man however the wounds to his chest and abdomen proved fatal.

Sunshine Coast Criminal Investigation Branch acting Detective Inspector Phil Hurst told media at a press conference on Tuesday morning that police believed those involved might have known each other through an acquaintance.

“(It) might be drug related, it might be a personal relationship but the exact cause or the nature of the disturbance behind is something that we really need to establish,” Insp Hurst said.

Insp Hurst said a nearby resident made a triple-0 call to authorities.

He said a car was also reportedly sighted leaving the address that night.

“We are investigating who was involved but the information we have is that there was some sort of disturbance or dispute which is what the unit residents are assisting with,” he said.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area after 11pm was urged to contact police via Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 and quote the reference number QP2101510922.

Nearby residents recalled hearing screams late Monday night.

“Then all of a sudden I’ve heard someone yell ‘call an ambulance’ and I thought that’s not good,” one resident recalled.

The resident said she knew it was “severe” when critical care paramedics were “working on him” for a long time.

She said she saw police and ambulances on scene until about 3am and police returned at 6.30am.

Insp Hurst said two of the Maud Street unit block residents were assisting police with inquiries and were co-operating.

More to come.
