A young man will face court today after an alleged attempted robbery armed with a gun in Ipswich, crashing a stolen car on the Sunshine Coast, running from police, and having explosives on him.

Police have charged Ethan William Scully of Southport, 23, with multiple offences following an alleged attempted robbery in a South Ripley home on Tuesday.

Police allege the man was at a home on Frankland St just before 8.30am and threatened those home with a handgun.

It will be further alleged he fled afterwards in a stolen red Mazda 3.

The allegedly stolen Mazda 3 was then involved in a single-vehicle crash when it hit a pole along Bruce Highway near Mary River Road overpass in Cooroy just before 4pm.

The driver allegedly fled the scene on foot, but was taken into custody a short time later.

When searching the car police allegedly found various suspicious items including ammunition.

Scully was charged with one count each of enter dwelling with intent, attempted robbery (threaten violence armed), driving without a licence, and possessing explosives.

He was due to appear at Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
