Allegations of a disturbing online sex chat being used by an accused Mountain Creek sex attacker has emerged in court.

Simon Ricardo Barra Yaite has spent two months in custody on remand following his latest arrest after allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl at Sunshine Plaza shopping centre on December 23 last year.

Charges from these alleged incidents were added to other accusations levelled at the 20-year-old, who police say assaulted multiple woman on their afternoon walks in Mountain Creek, Buderim and Sippy Downs.

He was granted bail on these initial charges, however was refused bail on his latest alleged offences since last year, where he faces seven counts of sexual assault and one common assault.

Legal Aid solicitor Cherisse Breese pushed for Barra Yaite’s second release on bail in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday, and claimed he could abide by even stricter conditions.

Police prosecutor Jeanette Grigoris objected to the application and claimed the 20-year-old was a danger to women on the Sunshine Coast.

Sergeant Grigoris alleged Barra Yaite’s offending was predatory and committed on women exercising alone in secluded areas in the late afternoon or evening.

Police allege Barra Yaite would sometimes follow the women and film them before grabbing them.

The police prosecutor said it was alleged the Mountain Creek man would upload the footage to an online sex chat group or a pornographic site. He allegedly told police after his arrest it was for his personal use.

Sergeant Grigoris said Barra Yaite told police it was the type of pornography he watched and how he was a “degenerate”and a “pervert”. He allegedly said it was his “secret second life”.

“He also stated to police at the time he needed for this to happen, for police to stop him … that’s concerning,” she told the court.

The court heard he initially denied his involvement however made some admissions due to the footage found on his phone in a hidden folder which showed photos of his victims.

Sergeant Grigoris said police also allegedly found the porn chat group where he posted the videos.

Despite being granted bail police allege Barra Yaite groped a 17-year-old girl working at a store in Sunshine Plaza resulting in his second arrest and bail refusal two months ago.

Ms Breese said she was currently awaiting a psychiatric assessment to be done on Barra Yaite however due to delays it would mean the 20-year-old could spend too long in custody.

She told the court he had no previous criminal history and could abide by the same conditions on top of being bound by a 24-hour curfew, where he could only leave the house in the company of his parents.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist refused the Mountain Creek man’s bail and said there was a significant need to protect the community from Barra Yaite’s alleged behaviour.

His matters will return to court on March 17. No pleas have been entered.
