A P-PLATER was released from jail today after speeding at more than 40km/h over the limit and leading police on a pursuit in a stolen car.

Ximone Lilly Daniels, 20, was on probation when her crime spree began on January 31.

The court heard she broke into a car at Tewantin and stole $8.

Things escalated the next day when she stole a car from Tewantin and was seen speeding at 125km/h in an 80km/h zone at Yandina.

Police prosecutor Stu Lydford said Daniels failed to stop when police attempted to pull her over.

He said Daniels had continued for several kilometres with police in pursuit.

“It was quite dangerous in my submission,” Sgt Lydford said.

“She placed herself and other members of the public at significant risk during that period of time.”

When she was eventually intercepted at Nambour, a drug test found she was driving with marijuana in her system.

Daniels appeared by video link at Maroochydore Magistrates Court today to plead guilty to 10 charges including unlawful use of a motor vehicle, evasion, and operate a vehicle dangerously- excessively speeding.

She had spent 100 days in pre-sentence custody.

Lawyer Luke Bull said his client did seasonal work at a strawberry farm and the offending occurred during summer when she was unable to work.

“During that period, she also had a falling out in the relationship with her partner, her and her mother weren’t getting on great, and she was homeless at times which largely resulted in the offending before the court,” he said.

Magistrate Maxine Baldwin said Daniels’ behaviour was “sheer stupid” and asked what she was thinking when she was driving at “horrendous” speed.

“I wasn’t thinking,” Daniels said.

She was given a head sentence of 15 months’ imprisonment, with immediate parole, for the dangerous operation of a vehicle.

Daniels was disqualified from driving for a total of two-and-a-half years.

She was also fined $300 for driving with a drug in her system.
