A tradie, who tried to “incite violence” on a popular Sunshine Coast nightclub strip, punched a chaplain’s car before ignoring a police direction to leave.
Samuel Harry Hawkins was fined $200 in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday after he pleaded guilty to contravening a direction or requirement of police on Ocean St on November 24.
Prosecutor James Allen told the court Hawkins had been kicked out of Old Soul nightclub for trying to “incite violence” by yelling abuse at other patrons when he targeted chaplains who volunteer to help at the venue.
“ … (Hawkins) has then punched their vehicle,” he said.
Mr Allen said police fined the 28-year-old for his behaviour and called his misplaced phone before giving him a move on order.
He said the Golden Beach resident was quickly arrested when he asked police to help him find his phone at 1.50am.
The court heard Hawkins had been warned for a second time to leave the nightclub strip when he was spotted wandering around the Uber pick-up zone.
Mr Allen said Hawkins was taken to the watch house and later given bail to attend court.
The tradie told the court he got upset when police and bouncers showed little sympathy for his lost phone predicament.
He said without his phone he was unable to order a taxi or Uber to get to his address.
Magistrate Richard Lehmann gave Hawkins simple advice.
“Next time if you’re told to do something, you need to do it,” he said.
No conviction was recorded.
