A 29-year-old Urangan plumber told a security guard he would smash his face if he wasn’t let into the Alexandra Headland Surf Club in front of families eating dinner.

Samuel David Jones, 29, escaped a conviction after he pleaded guilty to public nuisance and failing to leave a licenced premises in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Thursday.

The court heard the plumber from Urangan in Hervey Bay had visited the surf club, known as Club Alex, about 6.20pm on March 20, 2022 when he was refused entry because he had too much to drink.

Jones then threatened to bash a security guard.

“I’d like to roll you right now,” police prosecutor Brendan Newman quoted Jones in court.

Sergeant Newman said Jones called the security guard a “d---head” before going around the side of the club.

The court was told the Urangan man went around to the back of the building when other security guards approached him.

Jones then said “I’ll f---ing smash you in the face” and “come on”.

Sergeant Newman said families were nearby when Jones shaped up to security prompting them to restrain him until police arrived.

Jones represented himself in court and said he knew one of the security guards and said he was “not the nicest bloke” and had been unfairly treated.

Magistrate Rod Madsen told Jones he had a problem with alcohol as he had two previous encounters with police in Nambour and Hervey Bay.

Jones was ordered to pay $1600 in fines with no convictions recorded.
