A Maroochydore man who allegedly rendered a man unconscious outside a popular Sunshine Coast tavern has faced court for the first time since being charged.

Sam Schmidt, 44, faced Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Wednesday after he was charged with causing grievous bodily harm on May 1.

Police previously alleged two men known to each other, were arguing before the fight broke out on Duporth Ave about 9.15pm.

Mr Schmidt allegedly struck the other man in the face causing him to fall to the ground unconscious.

He did not enter a plea to the offence.

Paramedics reported emergency crews, including the critical care unit, rushed the alleged victim, a 44-year-old Maroochydore man, to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition with a head injury.

Magistrate Rod Madsen adjourned the matter to July 1.
