Alleged Duporth Ave, Maroochydore, assault leaves man fighting for life with head injuries

One man has been charged and another remains in a critical condition in hospital following an alleged serious assault at Maroochydore.

A man has been charged with grievous bodily harm following an altercation outside a Maroochydore venue on Sunday.

Another man was on Monday night still in a critical condition after he was allegedly knocked unconscious during the fight.

Police allege the two men, who were known to each other, were arguing before the fight turned physical on Duporth Ave about 9.15pm on May 1.

One man allegedly struck the other in the face causing him to fall to the ground unconscious.

Paramedics reported emergency crews, including the critical care unit, rushed the 44-year-old Maroochydore man to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious but stable condition with a head injury.

He was then moved to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

A 43-year-old Maroochydore man is expected to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on May 18.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the incident to come forward.
