A 28-year-old Yandina man who dealt drugs to his mates had his operation uncovered after police swooped on his far north Queensland home.

Should Cannabis be legal in Australia?

A low-level regional drug dealer has begun his new life on the Sunshine Coast after he was busted offering to sling weed to his mates on his mobile.

Ricky Dallas Stevenson’s foray into drug dealing was exposed by police after they searched his home in Mossman in far north Queensland on July 29, 2021.

Caloundra Magistrates Court heard multiple messages with drug “slang” were found which incriminated the 28-year-old Yandina man.

Police prosecutor Stu Lydford said some of the messages included asking a man if he needed “any green today” or telling another customer he had some acid tabs to sell.

Sergeant Lydford said a hydroponic set-up of three marijuana plants was found behind his wardrobe which had included fertiliser, growing lights, fans and a bong.

Defence lawyer Neale Tobin said the 28-year-old landscaper had only offered to supply the drugs and it was merely “mates helping each other out”.

“There was no money involved,” Mr Tobin said.

Stevenson pleaded guilty to five counts of supply, one of producing drugs, possessing a bong and possessing anything used in the commission of a crime and was fined $1500.

No conviction was recorded.
