Guy Anthony Ozanne threatens to stab people on Beerburrum train

Within days a 36-year-old Nambour man threatened to stab a woman and then several train passengers while running rampant on an ice binge.

Brutal Noosa fight caught on camera

A Nambour man who terrorised train passengers with a screwdriver while high on ice found himself in a similar scenario days earlier on Melbourne Cup day.

Guy Anthony Ozanne, 36, had been at the Palmwoods Hotel on November 2, 2019 when he threatened to stab a woman in the throat, Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard.

Police prosecutor Mark Burrell said Ozanne was then on a Beerburrum train on November 8, 2019 and had been bumping into people when a passenger told him to stop.

Court documents say the Nambour man punched the passenger in the face before he threatened others with a screwdriver, saying he would stab them.

Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard Ozanne had been “high on ice” during the entire violent encounter.

Senior Constable Burrell said the 36-year-old would go on to break into a Parrearra home and steal a Toyota Kluger on November 18, 2019.

Up to $5000 worth of items was stolen from the property, according to police.

The court heard he was arrested on November 19 in possession of stolen Medicare and bank cards.

Defence lawyer Neesha Maidwell said the 36-year-old had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and was given only six months to live.

Ms Maidwell said Ozanne would reside in Gympie if he was released on Wednesday as he had served 670 days of pre-sentence custody.

Magistrate Maxine Baldwin asked the Nambour man if he would change anything about his life.

“I’d never shoot up ice … it’s the devil,” he said.

Ozanne pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing a knife, public nuisance, common assault, endangering safety of people travelling on railway, as well as attempting to and entering a dwelling to commit an indictable offence.

He was also charged with receiving tainted property, unlawful use of a car and breaching bail.

The 36-year-old was sentenced to two years’ jail, suspended for five years, which meant he was released from custody.

Convictions were recorded.
