Three people dead after crash at Federal on Bruce Highway

The man charged over the deaths of three people in a horror car crash at Federal on the Bruce Highway has had his matters mentioned before a Sunshine Coast court.

Rafferty Raymond Rolfe, now 26, had his matters mentioned in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday, October 27.

Mr Rolfe is facing nine charges including murder, robbery, dangerous operation of a vehicle and driving with a disqualified licence.

Mr Rolfe has not yet entered any pleas to the charges.

One of the murder charges is a domestic violence offence.

Mr Rolfe was the sole survivor of the crash that killed Gypsy Satterly — who police allege was known to Mr Rolfe — Terry Bishop and Jessica Townley near Federal on Friday, July 21 2023.

Solicitor Jade Bradley appeared on behalf of Mr Rolfe and told the court the defence was seeking an adjournment as they wait for material from Queensland Health.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Jeanette Grigoris told the court the brief for Mr Rolfe was expected to take another month.

Magistrate Kurt Fowler adjourned the matters to November 24 and ordered Mr Rolfe to remain remanded in custody.

Court documents had previously stated Mr Rolfe allegedly stole a car the day before the incident and was driving with a disqualified licence.

Police had earlier alleged a stolen Isuzu MU-X had been pursuing the Nissan Navara driven by Mr Bishop, who had stopped to pick up Ms Satterly.

Investigators previously alleged the MU-X had continued chasing the Navara, which collided with a Great Wall ute driven by Ms Townley.

Mr Bishop and Ms Satterly were killed instantly while Ms Townley passed away at the scene.
