Disturbing details have been released by Sunshine Coast police after a teenager attempted to indecently touch a woman while she slept in what was labelled “every woman’s nightmare”.
Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Mansfield addressed the media on Thursday about the manhunt for an offender who broke into a School Street unit in Maroochydore.
Police say the man possibly in his late teens entered a 26-year-old woman’s unit through an unlocked door about 4am on October 18.
Sergeant Mansfield said the offender then pulled down her bed covers while the victim slept and started to pull at her underwear.
“This has woken the female who has sat up and pushed the male offender away, and he has decamped,” Sergeant Mansfield said.
The man is described as young, possibly aged in his teens, caucasian with dark coloured hair that was short at the back and sides, and around 188cm tall with a slim build.
Police say the offender was only wearing blue boxer shorts and had not left any clothes at the scene.
Sergeant Mansfield said no words were spoken during the incident or when he escaped and the alleged attacker was not known by the victim.
Media asked Sergeant Mansfield how concerned police were about the incident in what they described as “every woman’s nightmare”.
“We’re very concerned,” he said.
“We actively look at this with a view of bringing people to justice for doing that.
“It’s distressing for the victim, it’s distressing for the victim’s family and also her friends and the neighbours alike so we’re actively interested in resolving this matter.”
Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or have dashcam vision in the vicinity of School Road at the time of the incident, before or after 4am to contact Policelink on 131 444.
