A Cooroy father who reached speeds of up to 140km/h while evading police in the Noosa region told officers he was looking for his son at the time.

Nigel Dean Seeto, 48, copped a fine of $7000 after he pleaded guilty in Noosa Magistrates Court on May 31, 2022 to a range of driving charges including evading police.

The court heard Seeto had been driving along Cooroy Noosa Rd in Lake Macdonald on February 2, 2022 when he was spotted by police.

Police prosecutor Alison Johnstone said about 1.40pm police activated their lights after they saw Seeto driving at 94km/h in an 80km/h zone in the opposite direction.

Sergeant Johnstone said Seeto accelerated heavily after they performed a U-turn and overtook cars on double white lines.

Unsuspecting motorists had to dodge the Cooroy man to avoid a head-on crash as he split vehicles down the middle of the road.

Police estimated Seeto was driving more than 140km/h and stopped their intercept due to his dangerous driving.

The court heard officers came to the home of the vehicle’s registered owner who said Seeto had been driving the car at the time.

Seeto later told police he had been driving because local officers had called him looking to question his son and he had to pick him up.

The Cooroy dad represented himself in court and said Cooroy police had urged him to divulge the location of his son and that was why he was speeding.

The 48-year-old pleaded guilty to evading police, driving unlicensed, dangerous operation of a vehicle and failing to give a statutory declaration.

He was fined $7000 and disqualified from driving for two years with convictions recorded.
