Nick Newell identified as Cooroy motorcycle crash victim

A floral tribute has been placed the site of a fatal motorcycle crash to mourn a 49-year-old Cooroy man as authorities confirmed his identity.

The identity of a 49-year-old Cooroy man who lost his life in a fatal motorcycle crash only minutes from home has been confirmed.

Nick Newell had been travelling along Lawnville Rd about 5pm February 21 when his motorbike crashed off the side of the road.

Early investigations indicated Mr Newell had lost control on a bend in the road and came to a stop in a spoon drain.

Police say Mr Newell suffered critical injuries as passing motorists stopped to give him first aid following the crash.

Emergency services attempted to resuscitate the 49-year-old however he died from his injuries.

Flowers have been placed at the location of Mr Newell’s sudden passing as the Noosa hinterland community mourns the death of one of their own.

A private funeral service will be held for the 49-year-old.

From January 1 to February 27 there have been 52 fatalities on Queensland roads as a result of crashes which is 18 deaths greater than the previous five year average for the same period.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the moments leading up to Mr Newell’s crash.
