A Melbourne couple who tested positive for Covid-19 in Caloundra after travelling through western NSW have now been issued with a fine by NSW Police.
The woman, 44 and man, 48, had driven from Melbourne to Queensland through NSW during the first week of June, having stopped at several places in regional NSW along the way.
Officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District began an investigation into the pair’s activities after they’d travelled along the Newell Highway before entering Queensland on June 5.
The couple later tested positive in Caloundra for Covid-19 after spending a few days in the community, causing concern they had spread the virus throughout southeast Queensland.
During their travels through NSW, the couple had visited various businesses deemed essential services, including retail stores, food outlets and service stations.
The pair also attended a cinema on Macquarie Street in Dubbo on June 2.
They were both issued with a $1000 fine for failing to comply public health orders.
It came after they were also fined $4003 each by Queensland police for allegedly providing false information on border declarations on June 18.
