A removalist who dropped a clip seal bag containing a yellow substance while preparing an envelope at a post office has pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs.
Maxwell Richard Taylor, 23, of Peregian Springs faced the Noosa Magistrates Court on September 13, 2022.
Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist fined Taylor $500 and a conviction was recorded.
Police prosecutor Phillip Stephens said about 3pm on January 24, 2022, Taylor was seen with someone else on CCTV preparing an envelope at a post office in Noosa.
Sergeant Stephens said while they were preparing the envelope, Taylor dropped a clip seal bag on the ground that contained a yellow substance.
“The male and female leave the post office without realising,” he said.
Police went to the post office at the request of staff.
The police prosecutor said the substance contained etizolam and a drug like a benzodiazepine.
“It’s a schedule two drug under the drugs misuse act,” Sergeant Stephens said.
The police prosecutor said the defendant had in the past received imprisonment for drug offences.
Duty lawyer Bernard Bradley said the defendant’s past reflected a history of schedule one drugs.
“His history is one of someone who has gone hard fairly early in his life and he’s 23 now and been out of trouble now for three years,” he said.
“There’s been no drug offending for the last three years.”
Mr Stjernqvist said Taylor had pleaded guilty early and he had to take into account the defendant’s history in the sentence.
