Matthew Rollon Phillips pleads guilty to dangerous drug charge

A prominent Sunshine Coast charity founder who was caught with a stash of steroids said he is not concerned about the offence ruining his reputation.

A prominent Sunshine Coast charity founder who was caught with a stash of steroids said he is not concerned about the offence ruining his reputation.

Matthew Rollon Phillips pleaded guilty in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Monday to possessing dangerous drugs on July 30, 2021.

The 34-year-old originally told the Sunshine Coast Daily he would fight the charge and ordered a drug analysis on September 27 last year.

During a previous appearance a court head Phillips had 102g of a variety of steroids.

Phillips didn’t initially appear on Monday morning, prompting Magistrate Rod Madsen to issue an arrest warrant to lay on file.

The warrant was removed when the Level Up Foundation founder presented to the court and entered a plea of guilty.

Outside court Phillips declined to comment on the matter and said he continued to work under his charity.

When questioned about if he was concerned about his reputation he gave a laid-back response.

“No, not at all actually,” he said.

Solicitor Belinda Robinson who appeared as a town agent for Phillips’ lawyer asked for a sentence date to be set.

Mr Madsen said the matter was due to be finalised on Monday, but agreed to set a sentence date on March 21.

Phillips started his foundation in January, 2020 to work alongside homeless and disadvantaged community members to improve the lives of those in need.

He is also well-known for his work as a personal trainer.
