Sunshine Beach luxury car crash: Six teenagers arrested by police overnight

Six youths have been arrested during a night of mayhem including five teens who crashed an allegedly stolen luxury car before fleeing in a taxi.

Six teenagers have been arrested on the Sunshine Coast during a night of alleged mayhem on the eve of the Queen’s death public holiday.

Child Protection Investigation Unit detectives arrested five teenagers after they allegedly crashed a stolen Mercedes Benz along David Low Way near Hill St in Sunshine Beach about 1.35am on Thursday September 22, 2022.

Police allege the car was stolen from a Newport home near Redcliffe.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the five teenagers allegedly fled the scene but were found an hour later about 2.30am in a taxi which was intercepted by police.

Four boys aged 15 to 16 and one 15-year-old girl were charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle while two of the boys were further charged with contravening a police direction.

They were denied police bail and will appear in Maroochydore Children’s Court at a later date.

Police were called another incident at the Maroochydore McDonald’s along Aerodrome Rd several hours earlier about 10pm on Wednesday September 21, 2022.

It’s understood a 17-year-old Warana boy was in the drive-through when he allegedly tried to force his way out and crashed into another car before hitting a light pole.

He was arrested on two charges of wilful damage, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, obstruct police and unsupervised driving.

A Queensland Police spokesman said he was refused police bail and will face Maroochydore Children’s Court at a later date.
