A Maroochydore Roos player made a costly mistake to pick up his girlfriend after downing several beers, a court has heard.

Jake Tyson Warren was fined $850 in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday after he pleaded guilty to driving over the general alcohol limit on April 1, 2022.

The court heard Warren had enjoyed four to five beers before he made the “mistake” of going to pick up his girlfriend.

Police prosecutor Mark Burrell said police pulled the 22-year-old over along Noosa Dr, Noosa Heads around 10pm.

Senior Constable Burrell said officers quickly discovered Warren’s car was unregistered and uninsured by 61 days.

He said Warren blew a blood alcohol reading of 0.075.

The court heard Warren played Aussie Rules for the Maroochydore Roos.

“He is a good participating member of his community and society generally as well as being gainfully employed,” solicitor Gabe Hutchinson said.

Mr Hutchinson said a reference from his employer described the fourth-year apprentice as being “responsible and reliable”.

Mr Hutchinson said Warren thought he was under the limit when he got behind the wheel.

He suggested fines would be appropriate and asked for a three-month disqualified period.

Acting Magistrate John Milburn noted Warren’s pleas of guilty, his reference and the circumstances of his offences.

He fined him $850 and disqualified him from driving for four months.

Traffic convictions were recorded.
