A Marcoola woman has been released from custody after she broke into a riverside Sunshine Coast resort before returning to the scene of the crime.

Carmie Alison Circulado, 36, spent two nights in the Maroochydore watch house for the bizarre break and enters where she illegally entered the Maroochy River Resort and Bungalows in Diddillibah twice on May 9 and May 13.

Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard on Wednesday the Marcoola woman walked through an unlocked door at the resort’s reception about 6.45am which was opened for staff where she stole several items including soft drinks and ice creams.

She then left the scene and walked to the veranda while eating her ice cream where a teacher and CCTV spotted the Marcoola woman.

Police prosecutor Tara Miles said Circulado returned on May 13 about 2.05pm where she was spotted by a resort staff member trying to break into a bungalow through glass louvres.

The employee called police and she was arrested with syringes and a glass pipe. She wasn’t interviewed by officers due to being under the influence of drugs at the time.

Duty lawyer Cherisse Breese said Circulado had moved to Australia from the Philippines six years ago and previously worked as a cleaner.

Ms Breese said she hadn’t worked recently and had been fighting bouts of homelessness, and tried to break into the resort for food and a place to stay.

Magistrate McLaughlin said the 36-year-old had never been in trouble with the law until this year and now she was becoming a “complete pest”.

The court heard she had spent two nights in custody after her arrest on Monday.

Mr McLaughlin said Circulado needed to get her life together as she had been dealt with multiple times for shoplifting, stealing and trespassing and had been fined.

Circulado pleaded guilty to attempting to enter a dwelling with intent by break, entering a premises and committing an indictable offence, fail to dispose of a syringe and possessing utensils.

She was sentenced to three months’ jail, suspended for six months and fined $200. Circulado, who appeared in custody from the dock, was released back into the community.
