Australia's growing drug crisis

A 21-year-old Tewantin bartender has breached his bail again while he awaits charges of drug trafficking in the Brisbane Supreme Court.

Noosa Magistrates Court heard Lucas Seth Jolly had been at a work function on the evening of November 9 when he succumbed to an anxiety attack, and breached his curfew.

Police prosecutor Alison Johnstone said it was the 21-year-old’s third breach of bail since being charged with drug trafficking.

Sergeant Johnstone said they had since been committed to the Brisbane Supreme Court.

The facts of Jolly’s alleged drug-trafficking offending were not read into the record besides the fact they stemmed from 2019.

Noosa Magistrates Court heard Jolly gave a medical certificate to police which said he suffered from an anxiety attack that night and couldn’t get home in time.

Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist said the point of the curfew was to keep him out of trouble due to his serious drug charges.

“That bail document should be one of the most precious things you own, because the alternative is in custody,” he said.

Jolly pleaded guilty to breaching bail and was fined $500, with a conviction recorded.
