The lawyer representing the driver who allegedly killed two Sunshine Coast mechanics when she struck them with her car in Nambour is ready to proceed to committal, a court had heard.
Kelly Renee Liddicoat, 43, is charged with dangerously operating a vehicle causing death while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance and driving under the influence.
Ms Liddicoat’s lawyer, Bradford Hill, told Maroochydore Magistrates Court on August 19, 2022, he’d received the full brief of evidence from police.
He asked for a short adjournment to submit an application for a registry committal date.
Police allege Ms Liddicoat – who was excused from attending court on Friday – had been driving a white BMW at 3.30pm on April 21, 2022 when she struck two young men with her car.
Lleyton Bartlett, 22, of Baringa, and Aaron Pitt, 25, of Currimundi were the two mechanics who were hit while fixing a bus on Nambour Connection Rd, Woombye.
The pair were working for bus company CDC South East Queensland (formerly Buslink) when they were allegedly struck.
Despite the efforts of bystanders and paramedics, the two men succumbed to their critical injuries at Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
The fatal incident rocked the Sunshine Coast community, with an outpouring of love and tributes from close friends and family.
Mr Hill said the driving under the influence charge is expected to be dealt with in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court at a later date.
Magistrate Rod Madsen adjourned Ms Liddicoat’s matter to September 2, 2022, for mention.
