Joseph Dean Keys committed to Maroochydore District Court over allegations of police assault

A Sunshine Coast man is yet to enter any pleas after he was charged with assaulting a police officer who intervened in an alleged drunken fight at Caloundra RSL.

A Sunshine Coast man who allegedly assaulted a police officer who intervened in a drunken fight at Caloundra RSL will be defending the charges against him in a higher court.

Joseph Dean Keys, 23, was committed to the Maroochydore District Court on Friday, October 15, on two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of assaulting a police officer while under the influence.

Police will allege officers had been called to Caloundra RSL on April 18 after Mr Keys was involved in an alleged fight at the venue.

It’s alleged he then assaulted a police officer while they were performing their duties.

Mr Keys is also charged with two counts of obstructing police and one count of committing a public nuisance in a licenced venue.

Those three matters were adjourned to March 4, 2022 to be dealt with in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court after the District Court hearing.

Mr Keys, who remains on bail, is yet to enter any pleas to any of the charges against him.
