A Sunshine Coast miner who was seen handling a Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle Gang vest has had his home raided by police, with a gun silencer and drugs found.

Jordan Barnett, 44, copped a large fine in Maroochydore Magistrates Court for his holding a vest affiliated with a gang and his possession of drugs and weapons.

Police prosecutor David Hoffmann said on Thursday, July 7, 2022 the Coolum Beach man had been in Townsville for a Rebels OMCG event and had attended a casino about 3.15pm on April 21, 2021.

Senior Constable Hoffmann said investigators had been in North Queensland monitoring this event.

The court was told that Barnett was seen on CCTV holding and inspecting the OMCG vest which had been worn inside out by a co-accused who had been sentenced in Townsville.

Almost 12 months later police from Taskforce Maxima, a specially designed group targeting gangs, raided Barnett’s Coolum Beach home about 8.40pm in relation to the prohibited item charge.

They entered through an unlocked door and searched the home, coming across varying amounts of steroids including testosterone, drostanolone, and methandienone.

Senior Constable Hoffmann told the court a black silencer, scales and knuckle dusters were also found.

Defence lawyer Jason Jacobson said Barnett had only handled the OMCG jacket in Townsville for 10 seconds.

Mr Jacobson said some of the drugs found were given to Barnett by a friend to recover from an injury, while the silencer had been left at his Coolum Beach home by another mate.

Barnett pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing drugs, two of unlawful possession of weapons, possessing scales and carrying a prohibited item in a public place and was fined $1600.

Convictions were recorded.
